You can support potential donors through the recruitment process as a councillor, raise funds and awareness for the organisation, or even help to run Marrow as a member of the committee.

DON’T PANIC. Those are the immortal, friendly words of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, which apply to everyone. Especially you! You’ve worked for years, passed the tests and ended up here, where everything is pretty odd. I mean, just look at the crazies in this photo, brandishing towels. Then again, at least they know where their towels are. They are Mostly Harmless, dedicated to celebrating the literary works of Douglas Adams. If you know where your towel is, then this is your society! These people will do everything they can to make your time here as froody as possible.

The St Andrews University Real Ale Society (SAURAS) is a society dedicated to promoting cask conditioned ale. We believe drinking should be something which is done socially, over the course of an evening and with a drink you actually want to drink. We do this through organizing brewery tours and trips to ale festivals in addition to our weekly pub meetings and the brewing of our own ale. As our meetings normally involve sitting around drinking and talking, we're a social society almost by definition. And don't worry if you've never tried real ale before, we're not here to judge.

Welcome to the Sustainable Development Society at the University of St. Andrews! The SD society is dedicated to raising awareness and encouraging action towards sustainable development. The most widely held definition of SD is “development which meets the needs of present generations without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs”. In a world where neither society nor economy would exist without the environment, we try to bring these three increasingly separated spheres back together. For this we work with students, staff, and the wider community of St. Andrews, and beyond. This year we plan to continue with our programme of panel discussions, seminars, film screenings and social events, and to develop partnerships with both student and professional organizations outside of St Andrews. For more information, please visit our website @ https://sites.google.com/a/st-andrews.ac.uk/sdsoc-st-andrews/

Teddy Bear Hospital is a health promotion project for local primary school children. The aim is to teach children about health and healthcare through planned activities and games. We are quite a small society, but we still do a lot to make our presence known. The whole aim of Teddy Bear Hospital nationwide is the education of schoolchildren, so that going to the doctor does not have to be a daunting experience. It is our job to go into schools and act as Teddy Bear Doctors. We play games and arrange fun activities, teaching children along the way about healthy eating, safety in the home, what a doctor does and the procedures they may be familiar with, like taking X-rays and writing prescriptions. It is all conveyed in a simple manner so that children can gain a better understanding of healthcare and health education and can learn to trust this person they normally see as the Big Scary Doctor.
Teddy Bear Hospital is one of the best societies to get involved in if you are interested in developing communication skills, working with people and making medicine more relevant for young children. It has to be said, working with children as part of Teddy Bear Hospital is amazing. You may forget when you enter the Bubble that children even exist, as all you see are students, but going on visits to all our schools is an experience you won't forget! Whether you are helping a child bandage a teddys arm, or teaching them the "Heads, shoulders, knees and toes" song, it is sure to brighten up an otherwise dull Wednesday afternoon. Not only that, but you really get a chance to work on your communication skills, dealing with various ages of children with differing levels of understanding. The feedback from our visits has been fantastic. We are proud to have won Best New Society last year, visiting schools in the Fife area during health weeks and increasing awareness of Health and Safety.
Teddy Bear Hospital also raises money for children's charities. This year, our nominated charities are CHAS, the Children's Hospice Association Scotland and Mary's Meals. The work that these charities do is amazing and the society is proud to help these charities by fundraising for them. Last year we raised money for CHAS by hosting a milk and cookies night, cake sales and a film night. We intend to carry on this good work so look out for the many fundraising events coming your way.

UNYSA is one of 22 student branches across the UK, affiliated with the United Nations Association–UK. The VDay Society is proud to be part of a global campaign to raise awareness about violence against women. In past years, students have taken part in this campaign by putting on yearly productions of Eve Ensler's 'The Vagina Monologues'. This annual event has quickly become a much-anticipated tradition at the University, and has been a sell-out success each year. This compelled us to establish the VDay Society in order to expand the campaign to include even more fundraising events to involve both the student and local community in St Andrews and to celebrate women all across the world. The campaign has grown over the last few years to include events such as an art exhibit, a performance night, and performances of Eve Ensler’s other productions.
The Vegetarian Society is meant for all students who would like to enjoy delicious vegetarian and vegan food affordably. WARsoc fights an eternal battle to bring tabletop hobby gaming to the heathen masses. We hold weekly meetings where members can cobble together groups either to play there and then, or else arrange alternate game sessions throughout the week. What is played depends largely on what people are able and willing to run, though we strive to accommodate everyone’s tastes. We have a fairly extensive library for use by members, and regularly liaise with our local hobby retailers in Dundee to involve ourselves with their events. If you’re into this sort of thing, or in search of something genuinely different, WARsoc is definitely the place for you.
